The much-awaited development of Sohna elevated road (21 Km-long) would be opened to commuters by March end of 2022, as per National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Also, Badshapur and Sohna 12km-long stretch (package 2 of project) is ready and will be opened soon by this month. Furthermore, the package 1 which is 9km long and runs between Rajiv chowk and Badhsapur will get ready by March-end.
As stated by senior NHAI official, “The entire project is on track to be completed by March. We expect to complete package 2 this month, and package 1 will be ready by the end of March. The two portions of the elevated road are under development as separate packages, so we can open the stretch under package 2 while still finishing work on package 1”. As said by another official, 95% of the work related to package 2 costing worth Rs 606 crore, and around 75% of the work of package 1 costing worth Rs 690 crore is already done.
The purpose of Sohna elevated road costing worth Rs 13,00 crore is to enable people enjoy signal free connectivity between Sohna and Rajiv chowk and eliminate the busy intersections along the stretch, including Vatika Chowk. Also, this elevated road will reduce the current three-hour travel time between Gurgaon and Alwar to less than two hours. This project started with the deadline of 25 month which got delayed owing to complications emerging from the shifting of utilities coupled with issues like lockdown and repeated construction bans due to high pollution levels.
Furthermore, the project also got delayed in August 2020 due to the collapse of a 40 m spine of the elevated road. In last year September, Mr. Nitin Gadkari (road transport and highways minister) had called the last deadline to be March 2022 for an intersection of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway which anyhow is under construction at this time. He further stated that the Sohna elevated road will get connect to Delhi-Mumbai Expressway that is expected to be ready by 2023.
